Draft vs Active

• Draft — still being built. You can freely add/remove fields and roles. Draft templates cannot be used to send envelopes.
• Active — ready to use. Shows up in the "New envelope" template picker.

Editing an active template

Envelopes already sent are independent snapshots — they keep the exact field layout that existed when they were sent, even if you edit the template afterward. Changing an active template creates a new version, so in-flight envelopes are never disrupted by a later edit.

Archiving

If a template should no longer be used for new envelopes but you want to keep its history, archive it instead of deleting it. Archived templates are hidden from the "New envelope" picker but remain visible in your template list.
